Scaffolding Leveling Jack

Scaffolding leveling jack is an independent steel structural component used in building temporary scaffolding and formwork shoring projects. It is composed of threaded spindle, adjusting nut and load‑bearing end piece. The load‑bearing end can be flat base plate or U‑shaped clamping head, adapting to bottom supporting and top propping requirements respectively. Each structural part bears separate mechanical functions, and the component can complete height adjustment and load‑bearing tasks independently without relying on other scaffolding hardware accessories. The main raw material is carbon structural steel. The spindle has two mainstream structural forms: solid steel bar and hollow seamless steel pipe. Solid spindle features compact metal texture, outstanding compression resistance and bending resistance, suitable for heavy‑load working conditions such as high‑rise formwork support and large‑span beam temporary shoring. Hollow spindle reduces overall self‑weight while meeting load demands of conventional medium‑load construction scenarios, lowering labor intensity during manual carrying and installation. Thread parts are mostly processed by cold rolling technology, improving surface hardness of thread teeth and reducing wear caused by frequent nut rotation in repeated turnover usage. Adjusting nuts are produced by forging or casting processes, and their structural completeness determines locking reliability under long‑term static vertical pressure. The flat base plate enlarges contact area with the ground, disperses concentrated vertical pressure and reduces subsidence risk on soft foundation. The U‑shaped head forms a clamping groove for fixing horizontal steel tubes and wooden beams, transferring downward loads from upper formwork and concrete pouring.

Various surface anti‑corrosion treatments are available to adapt to different service environments. Hot‑dip galvanizing forms dense zinc‑iron alloy protective layers covering spindle, thread teeth and welding joints. This protective layer can resist erosion from rainwater, humid air and salt fog, and fits long‑term outdoor exposure and cross‑ocean transportation conditions. Electro‑galvanizing forms a relatively thin zinc coating on steel surface, which meets the usage requirements of short‑cycle construction projects with low corrosion risk. Paint‑coated surfaces are easy to peel off under thread friction and mechanical collision, so they are rarely adopted for scaffolding hardware with high turnover frequency. According to actual installation positions, scaffolding leveling jack can be divided into bottom base type and top U‑head type. The base type is assembled under scaffolding vertical tubes to bear the overall vertical load of the frame and compensate foundation height differences. The U‑head type is installed at the top of support uprights to constrain horizontal load‑bearing members and bear the pressure from formwork systems.

Core dimensional parameters determine its actual mechanical performance. Spindle outer diameter is one of the key indicators, and larger diameter brings higher ultimate compression capacity. Effective adjustment stroke defines the allowable height adjustment range. Excessively exposed threaded segments will reduce overall structural rigidity and increase deformation risk under load. The size of base plate or U‑head shall match on‑site bearing conditions. Undersized bearing end will lead to excessive local pressure and trigger settlement or slipping. This component is compatible with multiple mainstream scaffolding systems, including tube‑and‑coupler scaffolding, ringlock, cuplock and frame‑type shoring frames. Dimensional tolerances shall comply with corresponding international technical specifications to ensure stable physical fitting during field assembly.

Before being put into construction use, visual inspection and sampling mechanical tests shall be carried out as independent inspection procedures. Visual inspection covers spindle bending deformation, surface cracks, welding discontinuity, thread tooth damage and peeling of anti‑corrosion layer. Recycled scaffolding leveling jacks need stricter inspection standards. Even with intact appearance, invisible metal fatigue may accumulate after repeated load cycles and cannot be identified only by surface observation. Sampling compression tests verify ultimate bearing capacity and anti‑deformation performance. Components with permanent bending, thread slipping and structural cracks must be screened out and scrapped, and shall not be mixed into construction. Secondary processing such as cutting, welding and hole‑drilling on finished leveling jack is prohibited. Random modification will change the original steel section characteristics and weaken the overall load‑bearing capacity of the component.

Scaffolding leveling jack is designed for cyclic reuse. After the support frame is dismantled, concrete mortar, dust and foreign attachments on spindle and thread gaps need thorough cleaning. Residues trapped in thread grooves will cause nut jamming and interfere with normal height adjustment and locking effect in subsequent application. Finished components should be stored in dry and ventilated environment, sorted and stacked according to specifications, avoiding long‑term rain soaking and direct contact with damp soil. Improper on‑site operations include over‑extending threaded spindle, placing bearing end on uneven ground or sundries, and applying load exceeding rated limit. These improper operations may cause component deformation and abnormal local stress of scaffolding frames. As an independent adjustable load‑bearing unit, its structural integrity and mechanical stability directly affect the stress state of temporary support structures, and provide essential prerequisites for safe operation of scaffolding and formwork shoring systems.
